In November of last year DASA teacher, Lesta Erasmus, from Carlani Dance Studio had a very successful season at the Atterbury Theatre in Pretoria with Don Quixote, a Ballet in three acts. The leading role of Kitri was shared by Stephani Crous and Annika Mare. Both portraying this role beautifully.
In February this year Lesta entered Stephani for the ESDU (European Star Dance Union) of which Talent Africa was the host. She won the category 13-17 years in Classical Ballet with Kitri’s Wedding Solo from Don Quixote and qualified to enter the World Dance Master 2012, at the Intersport Centre, Porec, Croatia 16-20 May 2012.
A beautiful new red tutu for Kitri and a costume for Apollon Musagete – Variation Polymnie was made by Mari Coetzee for this occasion.
On arrival at the Intersport Centre Lesta said,
We were immediately aware of the competition we were up against, to name but a few; Germany, Romania, Hungary, Italy.
The pirouettes and fouette rond de jambes – every single dancer, from the youngest 6/7 years to the eldest, they all do them so effortlessly.
A beautiful venue with an amazing stage and back stage crew Lesta was privileged to have a back stage pass.
I thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful costumes of all the various dancers. The Germans and their traditional dress were outstanding. Their coach from Russia from another planet!
Stephani was the youngest in her category and was awarded an 8th place in her category, coming in first after the Germans and Romanians.
We are all very proud, this very young dancer performed confidently and beautifully, making us all proud. A DASA baby from day one and an Intermediate student.
Congratulations to Stephani and her teacher!
