Debbie Groenewald’s Les Danseuses Adult Ballet Studio presents “When Life Happens”

With a very small cast of only 20 dancers ranging in age from 16 to 55, amid a worldwide pandemic, lockdowns and isolations, we managed to bring our vision from late 2018 to life almost 3 years later. On 12 October we graced the stage of Atterbury Theatre with our third original production – WHEN LIFE HAPPENS. The story tells of God’s creation of a perfect world and Man made in His image and then the destruction of this glorious creation by the people inhabiting it. But there is Hope in God’s salvation plan and a future for Man.

The first act starts at the creation of the Earth and all living things including man. Adam & Eve take you for a stroll through the garden to see how perfect life was in the Garden of Eden, until evil crept in.

In the second act, Evil tempts Eve and tension builds. This is the beginning of the fall of mankind and the destruction of God’s glorious creation. We dig deeper into different aspects of the destruction of the earth, each other and ourselves… show casing the state of the world we live in today. The crisis portrays utter hopelessness, despair and destruction. Man is his own worst enemy.

In the final act, our Creator sees what has become of His creation, which was good, and the desperate state mankind finds himself in. This is the turning point for mankind: to realise that they need something bigger.

The climax is the realisation of hope in God’s salvation plan, although mankind doesn’t feel good enough and is still plagued by doubt, there is hope for Man.

Any production is a team effort and the 20 of us made for a great team! We made our own costumes, did our own choreography – when something did not work as planned, there was always a collective brainwave – we did our own lighting, music editing and electronic backdrop! And we had an enormous amount of fun!
